Often times you hear of people saying that they want to achieve great things in life. They want to become rich by this age. They want to get all As for their exams. There's a lot of dreams, but not much action to follow through and that is the crux of the problem. Always, it's the mind that is willing but the flesh that is weak. Are you also one of these dreamers too? |
There's nothing wrong with having wild dreams. In fact, that's the first step towards success and reaching to a place where you've never done before. It would be sad if a person cannot visualise where they want to end up with because of confidence or self limiting beliefs. They would be doomed to remain where they are, plodding through life like a life floating along a river.
But the visualising is only the first step. You must act before the dreams can be realised. That's where the hardest part of the equation comes in. It's so easy to talk about what you want to do in the future, simply because the future is not here yet. When it comes to actual doing, you find that most people will delay it because it's so painful.
Change is painful, there's no denying that. If it's so easy, we'll all be embracing changes now. But pain shouldn't stop you from acting on your dreams. I always believe that if you are desperate enough to achieve your dreams, the pain wouldn't even stop you. It's just another obstacles that are thrown in your path for you to remove.
The best way to act is to work at it one small step at a time, so that it's not daunting. Imagine you have a mountain of work to clear - just looking at it invokes so much pain that you want to delay this process as much as possible. That's human and that's natural. But don't look at the entire mountain of work to do. Look at one small piece of work . Do it and clear it. You can do that little thing, can't you? It's a war of attrition - wear the work down one small piece at a time. Discipline with time makes a lot of things possible.
So, take a new step in your life. It's okay to build sandcastles in the air, but you have to wake up and build it one day. Start small and start now. Act on it. Be a do-er!
